at the World Congress on Canals

Toulouse, France
September 2013

On September 16, 2013, the Schiller Institute and activists of Solidarité & Progrès, the party of LaRouche's friend and associate Jacques Cheminade in France intervened at the 26th World Congress on Canals and Inland Waterways (WCC2013) held in Toulouse, France  and organized by Inland Waterways International (IWI)and the City of Toulouse.

Three hundred experts from the United States, the United KingdomChinaIndiaFrance, Belgium and many other nations gathered at this unique event to discuss the future of canal building. Although some wanted to focus on tourism, the importance of infrastructure, the radically opposing view was presented by historians and others who demonstrated the crucial role played by canals in organizing the harmonic development of territories, and the birth of great nations.

In the video below, Schiller Institute representative Karel Vereycken, also editor of Nouvelle Solidarité and founder of Agora Erasmus, discusses the future of the Morava canal with Serbian engineer Krsta Paskovic, the role of China's grand canal in nation building with historian Xingming Zhong, and the role of Da Vinci in European canal building with Italian expert Edo Bricchetti.
