Statement Addressed to Irish Patriots

Stop the Looting of Ireland!

by Jacques Cheminade

Paris, France
November 2010

Jacques Cheminade, co-thinker of American economist Lyndon H LaRouche, Jr., and leader of France's LaRouche Movement and Solidarité et Progrès party, is known throughout France through his election campaigns for the Presidency there, including the current 2012 Presidential election.  A recent, nationally publicized scandal brought to light the unjust and illegal attack on Cheminade's 1995 election campaign, which was designed to crush the candidate and eliminate the movement. That dirty trick failed to silence Cheminade, who continued the fight for economic development and justice, to build a youth movement and organize the population to return France to the tradition of Charles De Gaulle and the best ideas of civilization. The website (in French) of Solidarité et Progrès is HERE.

Jacques Cheminade.

The looting of Ireland by a troika of vultures -- the EU, the European Central Bank, and the IMF -- is a crime. I fully support with all my heart those who are fighting it and I admire your resistance in the name of national independence of your country and the future of your people. When I tell you to hold fast, to not become demoralized or be deceived, I guarantee you that we, here in France and in Europe, are fully supporting you, just as we support Greece and the Greek people, in the name of justice first and foremost, and of our own future, since Ireland and Greece are but the first victims of what will inevitably lead to financial breakdown worldwide and political disintegration, if we leave do not change existing policies.

Don't be fooled! This is not some mistake that Ireland has committed, it's the symptom of a global crisis. Everywhere one turns, financial institutions and speculators -- i.e., the guilty parties -- are being bailed out, while they crush the people -- i.e., the victims.

Irish flag.

The ones imposing this policy are the conglomerates of the financier interests of the City of London and Wall Street, the present incarnation of the British Empire. How obscenely do they claim to be saving Ireland, by imposing a fifth austerity plan, amounting to 4% of GDP, which adds to the 4% in preceding plans! Your Finance Minister, Brian Lenihan, had to admit that the main concern of his government is to avert a collapse of the banking sector. All the other European governments behave in the same way.

Their policy is based on the principle of government of the banks, by the banks and for the banks, for which we should substitute that of President Abraham Lincoln and our French Constitution: "Government of the people, by the people, and for the people."

They will say that the European banking sector and the euro have to be saved, that they cannot proceed otherwise. They repeat, as did Margaret Thatcher, TINA (There Is No Alternative). That's a lie! By proceeding thus, the British Empire is not only destroying peoples and economies, but it is even destroying itself. The euro and the leading financial institutions already belong to the living dead, they are too big and too rotten to be saved. We choose to not let ourselves be drawn into their deadly embrace.

What is to be done? We must reject once and for all the dominant monetarist system, with its predatory nature, and adopt instead, a fixed-exchange-rate system of public credit to build infrastructure for man and nature. To achieve that, the first deadly salvo against the British Empire must be the separation of investment banks from deposit banks, together with an orderly bankruptcy procedure for those who lost at the financial gamble. That is called a Glass-Steagall system, named after the law enacted in the United States during the Presidency of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and successively repealed in France and in the U.S. at the end of the 20th Century. That was what led to the financial insanity which threatens to crush Ireland today. Let us together put a stop it!

Such an initiative is at the heart of Lyndon LaRouche's program and fight in the United States and of mine in France. We look to our Irish friends, in the spirit of Theobald Wolfe Tone, Arthur Griffith, and Michael Collins, to lead the offensive today, aware far better than others, that you know the pedigree of the enemy, the British Empire, and you have always shown the courage to face it down. We French now recall the spirit of General Hoche in 1796.
